The current power crisis has made thermal power a necessity with much of the power being supplied on the national grid from thermal plants, while many small and medium scale enterprises continue to run most operations on generators. However, we should not forget that thermal power cost thrice as much to generate as hydropower.
As a result the World Bank has stepped effort to help in the quick construction of hydro dams (Bujagali hydro plant - 250MW) and thermal power stations (Mutundwe diesel thermal plant -50MW) which are critical because of the power deficit which in the past has had a negative impact on the private sector.
Total generation mix at peak time is at 355MW
Maximum Domestic power /dispatch to Umeme ~Ltd 365 MW
