UETCL is a national player with national obligations and has embarkedon several projects to
improve and modernize the transmission system, increase substation capacities for reliability
and fl exibility to meet the loaddemand for both the local and export market.
As a single buyer actor UETCL negotiates Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with existing
and new Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to enable evacuation of the power from the
different generation sites to the distribution centres. The majority of the mini-hydro stations
will be set up in rural areas for implementation of Government policy of Rural Electrification
and to increase power generation to meet the current power shortage.
